This is the cover for my Little Mermaid comic, I got bored so I colored it. The comic is black and white though. But I felt I should color the cover just because.
The mermaids in the pic are Tricia (on the rock) and Sinead (the one swimming). Tricia pretty much plays Ariel in the disney version and Sinead is pretty much Flounder. My version of the little mermaid is based on the disney version, but at the same time its pretty different. At the moment its on hiatus until I get caught up with school work, but will be returning on the 18th You should go and check out the first 5 pages..and don't let page 1 discourage you...I know it looks like crud, I plan on fixing it one day. Page 2 and the rest are much better. but you gotta start from the beginning
my one question is why change flounder from a, well, flounder (seriously Disney you couldn't come up with a more inventive name) to a mermaid child? I actually like it more with a mermaid sidekick (makes it a bit more sensible) but I was curious as to why.

lol well the mermaid sidekick idea is because I based a lot of the characters on people I know in real life. Sinead is my real little sister. and she is Flounder like in real life since like Flounder follows Ariel, Sinead follows me around. Another reason I changed the Flounder character to a mermaid is because I have 7 little sisters rather than 6 older sisters like Ariel (I also switched it to being the oldest mermaid wanting to go on land rather than the youngest cuz I'm the oldest), so I figured I'd change Flounder into my littlest sister I think it works that and Sinead loves the fact that she is like Flounder lol. (and yeah Disney could come up with better names lol) My version is based on the Disney one, but at the same time its pretty different.
I will say that i do enjoy your mermaid designs, especially when you say your working with the Disney film. I often see when someone is working from another persons story they tend to attempt an aping of the style. Its nice to see some originality through the work.
so you actually have 7 little sisters? holy shit. Im the youngest of 2.
i saw in your sketch book section all the merfolk were women, are you just populating your world with mermaids or will you be using mermen as well?

Yeah I'm not much of a fan of trying to copy other peoples style, I mean once in a while drawing maybe a fan pic in that person's style is great I think cuz its cool that people can do that, but I'd rather stick to my own. I might take a few lines (and maybe some of the songs, still debating on that one cuz it would be fun to draw it out) from the movie, but I'm drawing and doing it my way.
yeah I get that reaction a lot lol, I am the oldest of 8 girls, its crazy but fun...sometimes...when they aren't being evil.
lol I will be adding mermen, but it will probably be mostly girls (mainly because of how much sisters I have and I'm better at drawing girls than guys...at least I think so, I dunno). Also at the moment I don't have many guys to play mermen. I will still have a King Triton and a few other guys, but I have more dudes on land than in the sea at the moment.
yeah, keep your style, it suits the comedic mood more than the Disney style. i still couldn't see being the oldest, youngest or in the middle of 7 children. My ex girlfriends dad is one of 12, which is also very odd as well.
as for the mermen, hell just have some random fish dude swim around. dont even bother with lines.. Let the sisters have their say int he sun like they didn't in LM. oh, and have the one you have doodled witha soccer ball actually attempt that. i think that would be hilarious to see a group of mermaids try to play underwater soccer.
the musical numbers would be kinda hard I think.
